4-H horticulture and foods judged at County Fair
JAMESTOWN – On Thursday night, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H program hosted the horticulture and foods judging entries for 100’s of 4-H food projects.
Judging took place for home preservation – jams, jelly and pickles; food, cake decorating and baking.
Horticulture entries in-cluded dish gardens, and fruit and vegetable entries.
The youth throughout Chautauqua County have been working for months to prepare their entries.
There was considerable interest in many of the categories.
Many of the youths had several items to enter and received feedback from the expert judges.
Ribbons from the horticulture and food entries will be displayed in the 4-H Building during the 2013 Chautauqua County Fair.
4-H youth are ages 8-19 years with varying experience levels.
Judges evaluate using the Danish system. The Danish system allows judges to determine based on a 4-H’ers age and experience, if they feel that the completed project is Excellent (Blue), Good (Red) or Worthy (White).
Come to the Fair and see the exceptional projects created by Chautauqua County 4-H’ers. The projects will be on display all this week in Dunkirk.
Youth projects are on display in the 4-H Building where there will also be children’s activities, canine demonstrations, and public presentations.
