William Prieto announces his candidacy for District 12 seat
William Prieto of Mont Alto Drive, Jamestown, has announced he will seek a seat in Chautauqua County Legislature’s new District 12. In making his announcement, Prieto is excited to commit to being a direct representative for Chautau-qua County residents in his district.
“I’m asking for your vote, and I’m pledging my commitment to the residents of our district by vowing to bring your interests and ideas to the County Legislature. I think the importance of having down- to-earth, quality representation is even more significant today than ever,” said Prieto. “For me, public service is about providing leadership that is the best for all of Chautauqua County while keeping my commitment to the residents in my district.” Prieto also commented on his desire to work cooperatively with public officials and private residents across party lines to bring positive change for Chautauqua County.
“Many of the issues facing Chautauqua County – such as property taxes, business and economic development, job growth and preservation of our natural assets – do not have simple yes or no answers. My goal is to bring new solutions to the table and explore other viable options,” he said. “I have never been a politician, so I have an open mind and bring new ideas. I also have the passion, the energy and the experience to do more than just be a face at the meeting, more than just the same politics as usual. I will be fully involved in every issue as I continue to be involved in our community.”
Prieto is a lifelong resident of Chautauqua County and graduated from Maple Grove High School in 1989. He went on to earn an associate’s degree from Jamestown Community College, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, and earned a bachelor’s degree from the State University at Fredonia. He served for three years in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Bravo Company, 13th Engineer Battalion as a light engineer/sapper. He is also a graduate of Chautauqua Leadership Network.
Prieto owned and operated a multi-state advertising company and is currently a Senior Digital Media Strategist for Hearst Media. In addition to serving as a member of the Chautauqua County and Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, Prieto has also been on the Board of Directors for the Downtown Jamestown Development Corp., the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation, served on the Chautauqua County Minority Business Council and was previously a member of Rotary International Jamestown AM Club and Business Network International. Prieto also served as the Chairman of the 2009 March of Dimes Walk-A-Thon and as Chairman and board member for the Workforce Investment Board and a board member of Chautauqua Opportuni-ties Micro Enterprise Loan Board.
“I believe you make a difference by being involved in the solution, which is why I’ve taken an active role in these organizations,” Prieto said. “It’s that experience, involvement and drive that I will bring with me to the Chautauqua County Legislature.”
