Man hit by bus in Silver Creek hospitalized
SILVER CREEK – A Silver Creek man has been transported to the hospital following a bus-pedestrian accident Wednesday afternoon.
Robert T. Stankowitz, 50, of Tew Street was flown to Erie County Medical Center by Starflight following the accident that happened just after noon.
According to Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Stankowitz was running after the bus owned by Coach USA near the intersection of Howard Street and Central Avenue in an attempt to get the bus to stop.
The bus came to a stop at a stop sign at the intersection before turning right onto Central Avenue.
As the bus made the turn, Stankowitz lost his footing and fell to the ground. As the bus continued to turn, Stankowitz went under the bus.
Witnesses were able to alert the driver to stop, avoiding further injury to Stankowitz.
The investigation is continuing. Also responding to the scene were Alstar, Silver Creek Fire Department and Sunset Bay Fire Department.
