Benefit for local man Saturday

The family of a local man is hosting a benefit to offset medical costs incurred by cancer treatment. A chicken barbecue benefit will be held for Nick Christopher Jr. on Saturday at city VFW Post 1017.

Christopher was diagnosed in May with follicular lymphoma cancer. He will be undergoing chemotherapy for the next six months. He has been a lifelong resident of the area and is well-known by many, according to friends and family. Christopher has been known for his work ethic and dedication to the steel industry since 1975. Christopher and his wife, Crystal, have been married for 38 years and together they have four children, Nick, Johnny, Matt and Kimberly in addition to two grandsons, Michael and Nicholas IV.

The benefit will kick off with a motorcycle run with kickstands up at noon. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. for the run. Run prices are $15 per person which includes a chicken barbecue, beer and music later in the afternoon. For those who do not ride, the barbecue will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will continue until 10 p.m. with music and there will be a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. Presale tickets for just the barbecue are $15 each and tickets will be available at the door. Both events will be held at the VFW Post 1017, 111 Deer St., Dunkirk.

All proceeds will help the family east the financial burden of the medical bills approaching them along with daily needs.
