4-H contests continue at 132nd Annual Chautauqua County Fair

The 2013 Chautauqua County Fair has been a maze of excitement as Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H members prepare, care for and show their animals.

The weather on Wednesday was no exception to the excitement, with the abundance of sunshine and the smell of sugary sweets and animals. Show results for 4-H exhibitors also continues the excitement. 4-H Goat Program participants performed in the Goat Arena in the Dairy Goat and Meat Goat Shows. Youth were judged by Warren Beeler, who evaluated youth in Showmanship Classes based on how well each youth and goat performed together.

Youth in the Goat Show also participated in Dairy and Market Classes in which animals were judged on respective breed standards and in Market Classes on finish and projected carcass quality.

Wednesday’s Goat Show results are:

Goat Senior Showmanship: 1st Abigail OBrien; 2nd Katelynn Gierlinger. Goat Junior Showmanship: 1st Robert Clutter; 2nd Gracie Morrison. Goat Novice Showmanship: 1st Autumn Walters; 2nd Rachel Harper.

Grand Champion Showman is Abigail OBrien and Master Showman is Abigail OBrien.

Cloverbuds are 4-H members under 9 years old who participate in non-competitive animal activities. This year, four members participated in the 4-H Goat Cloverbud Program and exhibited their goats in the 4-H Goat Show. Each Cloverbud member received a variegated ribbon, trophy and a donated gift.

Cloverbud participants were Kamryn Harper and Mariah LaRoy.

4-H Goat participants showed their animals in breeding classes in which the animals were evaluated on structure, balance, breed standards and body composition. In the A.O.P. the Best Junior Doe in Show All Other Breeds is Madeline Lancaster with “Daisy,” Best Senior Doe in Show went to Abigail O’Brien with “O’Briens SJ.”

Senior Reserve Champion A.O.P. went to Autumn Walters with “Florence.” Cole Morrison received top honors for the Best Dam and Daughter with “Sheeza Gaga” and Absolute Marvel.” The Best Udder Award went to Autumn Walters’ goat “Alien.”

In the Meat Goat Breeding Class, Abigail Obrien’s goat “Gypsy” received Best Junior Doe and Nicole Ewer’s “Emmie” received Best Senior Doe and Champion Breeding Doe. Randi and Libby received top honors as Best Dam and Daughter pair.

Katelynn Gierlinger received Champion Meat Goat. Nicole Ewer received Reserve Champion Meat Goat.

In the Pygmy Goat Division, Cole Morrison received Grand with “Springwaters Farms Absolute Marvel,” and Gracie Morrison received Reserve Champion Pygmy with “Springwaters Farm Sassy Attitude.”

Supreme Champion of Show went to Cole Morrison with his Pygmy Goat “Springwaters Farm Absolute Marvel.”
