Brigham Road partly closed

The City of Dunkirk Department of Public Works is advising motorists that the contractor working on the west end waterline project will have Brigham Road closed from Lake Shore Drive West to West Second Street on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.

Bridge open

The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities has announced that Chautauqua County Bridge No. 134, on County Route 4, Marks Road, in the town of French Creek, between Bush Road and County route 7 (French Creek-Mina Road), is now open.

Reed’s staff in city Wednesday

Congressman Tom Reed’s staff will hold office hours in Dunkirk July 31 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Dunkirk City Hall.

Reed’s staff will be at 342 Central Ave. in Dunkirk July 31 to answer any questions and gather feedback and concerns from constituents. Whether it’s a Social Security, Medicare, Veterans or any other question or concern with a federal government agency, Congressman Reed’s staff will be available to help.

FEMA resource workshop for local groups set

Rep. Tom Reed has announced an upcoming Federal Emergency Management Agency workshop in Dunkirk to help local fire departments and EMS organizations better care for and meet their firefighting and emergency response needs and enhance those capabilities. The workshop is being held in conjunction with the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

Regional FEMA grant specialists will be on hand to offer information to local fire departments and nonaffiliated EMS organizations on how to navigate the application process and identify and utilize the resources available to them.

Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources necessary to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

The workshop will be held Wednesday at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator in Dunkirk. Please contact Reed’s office in Jamestown at 708-6369 or Olean at 379-8434 for details and to RSVP.

Training session on identification and reporting of child abuse to be held

A state-mandated training session for professionals on identifying and reporting child abuse, maltreatment and neglect will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Aug. 8 at the LoGuidice Educational Center, E Building, Coordinated Health Conference Room, 9520 Fredonia-Stockton Road, Fredonia.

The training is required for all persons applying for a provisional or permanent certificate of license valid for administrative or supervisory service, classroom teaching service, or school service. Therefore, in addition to teachers and school administrators, the mandate affects school physicians, nurses, therapists and others in the fields of healthcare and education.

Participants should bring their licenses or certificate numbers with them if possible. A State Education Department certificate of completion will be provided for each course participant.
