Silver Creek School Board meeting tonight

The Silver Creek Board of Education will meet today at 6 p.m. in the board room for an executive session to discuss a legal matter.

No other business is set to take place.

Gas unchanged

Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have not moved in the past week, averaging $3.83/g Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 319 gas outlets in Rochester. This compares with the national average that has fallen 2.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.65/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices Sunday were 19.0 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 18.5 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 14.0 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 15.0 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy to host

informational session

The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host an informational session and tour on it’ campus at 8115 Glasgow Road, Cassadaga on Thursday at 10 a.m.

The Cassadaga Job Corps provides training to begin a career in the healthcare and construction industries as well as GED classes to those in need of a diploma. Training in Certified Nurse Aide, Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing and Electrical are available as well as the Advanced Training for Licensed Practical Nurse.

The Academy will accept young adults, age16-24, that are committed to a rigorous education and training program that are prepared to launch a career.

Applicants can apply for on-center living or off center living, and all applicants will enroll on a full federal scholarship if accepted.

Southwestern Volunteer Firemen’s Convention

to be held in Westfield

All members of the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire departments are urged to attend the Southwestern Volunteer Firemen’s Convention in Westfield from Thursday to Saturday. The Dugout is located at 13 Union St. in Westfield.

Area youth can still register for fall soccer

There is still time to register for Fall Youth Soccer in Westfield. Application forms can be picked up at the Eason Hall, Village of Westfield window. The fee is $20 for the first child, $15 for the second and $10 for the third (max. of $45 per family), but scholarships are available. Games will begin mid-August and end mid-October. Trip to the WWII Reenactment at Conneaut, Ohio

Join the Westfield Rec-reation Department for the largest D-Day Conneaut ever. With nearly 800 re-enactors from all over the U.S. and Canada it has become one of the largest WWII re-enactment in the country.

The department is planning a one-day bus trip to the WWII Reenactment at Conneaut, Ohio on Aug. 17. Price is $25 with meals on your own. If you would be interested in this trip, contact the Recreation Dept. at 326-4243 or visit facebook.com/WestfieldRecDept.

Brocton seeking

homeowners interested in repair program

The Village of Brocton is applying for Community Development Block Grant funds through the New York State Office of Community Renewal to assist low- and moderate-income homeowners in the Village of Brocton with home repairs.

Using CDBG funds, the village provides grants to eligible homeowners for necessary repairs such as roofs, windows, furnaces, insulation, electrical upgrades, etc.

The village is looking for homeowners who would be interested in participating. To be eligible, you must be a homeowner in the village of Brocton, be current on your property taxes and be low to moderate income. The maximum income for a household of one is $32,350, for a household of two is $36,950, for a household of three is $41,550 and for a household of four is $46,150. Income limits continue to increase as household size increases. Rental properties will not be eligible for assistance.

30th Annual Tour of Chautauqua Bike Ride

The 30th annual Tour of Chautauqua Bike Ride will be held on Aug. 10, originating and finishing in front of the Eason Hall, 23 Elm St. Westfield. The mass start begins at 9 a.m. Water and refreshment stops and sag wagon services are provided. Helmets are required. Recreational tours of courses of 25, 40, 62, 75 and 100 miles are offered, with a meal at the finish. Entries postmarked by July 19 are $18 and include a T-shirt. Entries for the ride are $20 and include a Tour of Chautauqua water bottle. Call 326-4243 for more information.
