Doug Diers resigns as Chautauqua County Veterans Service Agency Director
MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County Exec-utive Gregory Edwards said Monday that Doug Diers, the Director of the Chautauqua County Veterans Service Agency, will resign from his position effective Aug. 9.
Diers has decided to pursue his passion for serving veterans by accepting a Federal Service teaching position with the Air Force. In his new role, Diers will be working at the Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., to help train the Department of Defense personnel in a wide variety of communication and information systems.
“It was a tough decision to make because I absolutely love what I do for the County,” Diers said. “I consider this new position as a forward career progression for me and I look forward to being closer to my children and grandchildren.”
Diers, a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force, served for 20 years in active duty and became the Director of Chautauqua County’s Veterans Service Agency on Sept. 2, 2012.
“Master Sergeant Diers served the Veterans of Chautauqua County well during his tenure as the Director of our VSA and we all wish him well in his return to Mississippi to continue his service to our Armed Forces personnel,” Edwards said. “I will continue my commitment as County Executive to provide the absolute best services to our veterans through a team of professionals dedicated to this cause as I recruit a new Director and a new Veteran Service Officer in anticipation of the retirement of one of our other team members in April of 2014.”
Edwards said he has begun the process of finding a replacement and will once again establish a bi-partisan committee to review applications for the new Director of the Veterans Service Agency.
