All-star performances

Cassadaga Valley’s Kenny Oakes was named the CCAA Division 2 Player of the Year, as the senior pitcher-infielder helped the Cougars to a share of their first league title since 1974.

Joining Oakes on the First Team were teammates Tim Bender (senior, infielder), Tyson Gugino (junior, infielder), and Matt Hollowell (senior, pitcher-infielder).

The rest of the First Team was made up of Portville’s Justus Elliot (junior, pitcher-catcher), Brett Marcellin (junior, pitcher-first base), Zach Wood (senior, pitcher-catcher) and Brandon Muniga (senior, outfielder), Frewsburg’s Tage Johnson (junior, pitcher-catcher-infielder), Bryce Peterson (pitcher-outfielder) and Brett Johnson (senior, outfielder). Also named to the First Team were Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Seth Agnew (senior, pitcher-infielder) and Justin Forster (junior, infielder), Randolph’s Nate Beaver (senior, outfielder) and Salamanca’s Matt Crandall (junior, infielder).

On the second team were Troy Giberson (senior, infielder, Portville), Austin Suain (senior, outfielder, Portville), Matt Heath (junior, CVCS), Andy Ellis (junior, catcher, CVCS), Trevor Spicer (junior, pitcher-catcher, Frewsburg), Bryce Raymond (junior, pitcher-outfielder, Frewsburg), Luke Makakanja (senior, pitcher-first base, Cattaraugus-Little Valley), Matt Booth (senior, outfielder, Cattaraugus-Little Valley), Mitchell Maycock (junior, pitcher-infielder, Randolph), Ryan Styles (junior, first base, Randolph), Mike Morris (junior, outfielder, Salamanca), Mitch Gilbert (sophomore, catcher, infielder, Salamanca), Zach Klisiewicz (senior, infielder, Silver Creek), Anthony Morales (senior, pitcher-outfielder, Silver Creek) and Stephen Marcey (senior, infielder, Silver Creek).

Nick Burroughs (senior, Portville), Dakota Morano (senior, CVCS), Dane Johnson (senior, Frewsburg), Nick Long (junior, Frewsburg), Ryan Hanft (senior, Cattaraugus-Little Valley), Matt Frary (junior, Cattaraugus-Little Valley), Kyle Brown (junior, Randolph), Alex Miinte (senior, Randolph), Andrew Hvidzdzak (junior, Randolph), Nate Ploetz (junior, Randolph), Tyler Martin (senior, Salamanca), Tadd Beattie (junior, Salamanca), Adam Klajbor (junior, Silver Creek), Josh Pfleuger (senior, Silver Creek) and Kraig Gilbert (sophomore, Silver Creek) were all named Honorable Mention.

Portville’s Mike Matz was named Coach of the Year as the Panthers tied Cassadaga Valley for the top spot in the Division, before going on to win the Section 6 Class C title over Westfield. Tyler Martin, of Salamanca, earned the Sportsmanship Award.

Final league standings: Portville 10-2; Cassadaga Valley 10-2; Frewsburg 9-3; Cattaraugus-Little Valley 6-6; Randolph 5-7; Salamanca 1-11; Silver Creek 1-11.
