John R. Logan

John R. Logan, 82, a resident of Absolut at Westfield, died Wednesday morning (July 31, 2013) at the home.

He was born April 25, 1931 in Dunkirk, the son of the late William and Malvina (Robinson) Logan.

John was the last remaining survivor of the historical July 1937 blaze at Phillips Mansion on Lakeview Avenue, Fredonia. The fire took the lives of his mother and three sisters.

A lifelong area resident, Mr. Logan had been employed by The Resource Center in Dunkirk.

He had been involved in the Cub Scouts for many years and enjoyed marching in the local parades.

John was known for his love of horses.

Surviving are a niece, Barbara Shear of Fredonia and a nephew, John Logan, of Dunkirk. Also survived by many other nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and William Jr. and three sisters, Arlene, Jean and Mary Anne.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
