Sunshine Deck Build dedication ceremony to be held Tuesday

The Sunshine Deck Build, sponsored by the Circle of Love and Sons of Liberty Motorcycle Club, will hold a blessing and dedication to the memory of Mark W. Speziale by Father Joe Zalacca from Holy Trinity Church on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at 724 Central Ave. in Dunkirk.

Refreshments will follow the ceremony at Katerina’s. Members of the Circle of Love and Sons of Liberty are welcome.

Special program on antique milk bottles to be held Aug. 12 in Sheridan

On Aug. 12 at 7 p.m., the Sheridan Historical Society will host a special program on antique milk bottles by Alberta Oonk of Clymer.

An avid collector, Oonk is the author of “Milk Bottles of Chautauqua County and Their Stories.” She recently presented for the Chautauqua County Historical Society.

The talk will be held on the first floor of the former Sheridan Town Hall, on the corner of U.S. Route 20 and Center Road in Sheridan.

Refreshments will also be served.

Fredonia Village Board of Trustees meet Tuesday

There will be a special meeting of the Fredonia Village Board of Trustees on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to discuss any business that may come before the board.

Farmers’ Market in Fredonia

Margaret Bruegel of Roo Haven Farm will offer a free workshop about raising backyard chickens on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Fredonia Farmers’ Market. Participants will learn about ideal breeds for a small backyard flock, the importance of preserving heritage varieties of chickens, and feed and housing options. The workshop will include a discussion about local efforts to support zoning allowance of backyard chickens. Roo Haven Farm is a small certified organic farm specializing in heritage varieties of chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, as well as goats and Berkshire hogs.

Festivals Fredonia’s Farmers Market is located on Church Street in front of the village hall. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday through the end of October.Vendors sell fresh produce and fruits, humanely raised meats and poultry, honey, maple products, free range eggs, goat milk products, bread, baked goods, fresh flowers, knitted wear, beach glass jewelry, baskets, and much more. Silver Creek brush week reminder

Silver Creek Mayor Nick Piccolo would like to remind village residents that village brush pickup is scheduled for the first and third Mondays of each month. Residents are asked not to put out their brush until the Sunday night before the pickup. Residents are also asked to wait until the night before garbage pick up to put out their trash. A schedule of pick up days can be found in the village clerk’s office.

Dunkirk Republican Committee Picnic

The Dunkirk Republican Committee will be honoring County Executive Greg Edwards, County Clerk Sandy Sopak, and former Mayor Richard Frey for their service to our county, our city, and the Republican Party at the upcoming Dunkirk Republican Committee picnic.

This year’s picnic will be Wednesday, Aug. 7th, 5-7 p.m. at the Firemen’s Pavilion, Point Gratiot Park. Tickets: $15/person, $25/couple, children 10 and under are free.
