Shakespeare Club holds annual picnic
The annual picnic for members of Fredonia Shakespeare Club, founded in 1885, was held at the home of the 2013-14 President Mrs. Robert Woodbury, assisted by fellow officers Vice President Mrs. Louis Richardson, Secretary Dr. Susan Besemer and Treasurer Ms. Priscilla Bernatz.
Following the luncheon held outdoors, outgoing president Mrs. John Van Scoter opened the meeting by thanking the other officers who had served with her during the past year. Outgoing treasurer Mrs. Martin Sanden gave the treasurer’s report. Mrs. Brian Woods gave the secretary’s annual report which focused upon the club’s 2012-13 year, the Fall Tea, and the papers presented on the year’s topic: “Authors as Social Commentators,” and the celebration of Shakespeare’s 449th birthday.
Incoming president Mrs. Robert Woodbury thanked past officers and the incoming officers for their helpfulness. The members began completing next year’s calendar. Papers will be given on a wide variety of topics, all under the general theme of “Creativity & the Spark of Genius,” covering literary and artistic aspects of creativity, cultural and sociological aspects, and information about creative eminences.
After selecting topics, each member chose a date for presenting her paper as well as a date to serve as hostess. The Fall Tea will be held Oct. 3.
