Hours for Cassadaga Clerk’s Office to expand

CASSADAGA – It’s that time of the year when even politicians are excited to get out of the office and into the sun. So that’s exactly what the Cassadaga Village Board did.

There was a change of venue for the regular meeting Wednesday evening after a couple of tables and chairs were set up on the lawn outside the village offices.

“We have to follow the Open Meetings Law, so that’s exactly what we’re doing – holding an open meeting!” Village Mayor LeeAnn Lazarony joked regarding the new setting.

After getting down to business, the board approved a budget increase in the clerk’s office for Deputy Clerk Angelica Martin. Martin will be receiving a salary of $7,696 per year as compensation for an increase in her hours.

As a result, the clerk’s office will now be open every Wednesday and Thursday between noon and 3 p.m. This is in addition to the hours already established, which are Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The board also approved the purchase of a new Dell computer, complete with Microsoft Office Professional, for $934. A $350 laptop, complete with software and training, for the Highway Department was also approved.

Village Clerk Roxanne Astry also handed out a proposed budget for the Cassadaga Branch Library, which the board approved.

“They had a mold test done yesterday and they passed inspection,” she said. “Everything is done regarding the renovations. They’re just putting the books back in order. All the construction is done, so the library hopes to re-open on Labor Day weekend.”

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. in the village offices. No word yet on whether Mother Nature will allow for another open meeting.
