Cardinal Mindszenty High School Class of 1963 holds reunion

The Cardinal Mindszenty High School Class of 1963 celebrated its 50th reunion on Saturday, Aug. 3.

The day began with classmates gathering at the 4 p.m. Mass at Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk, celebrated by Rev. Ray Donohue. The Mass intention was for the deceased and living classmates. Assisting Father were friends of Barb Rybij-Kubera: Roberta Coniglio – lector; Tonia Piede – choir director accompanied by the choir.

A special scroll was made by Donna Seyedian honoring the 10 deceased classmates: Mary Bogardus Coyle, Carol Burek, Thomas Clark, Nora Elfman, Joan Frank, Joseph Kussy, Robert Madurski, Ellie Moeschner, Noreen Roman Falkner and Gerald Tramuta.

Following Mass, everyone gathered at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Dunkirk for cocktails and appetizers, followed by a sit-down dinner consisting of a choice of orange roughy, strip steak or stuffed chicken breasts with all the trimmings.

Music was provided for the class’ dancing and listening pleasure. A memory table was set up for all to reminisce the past 50 years. Each classmate was presented with a purple golf umbrella with the gold CMHS seal imprinted on it, a gold candleholder with purple candles, a large button with their high school picture and surprise wrapped gifts.

John Murgatroyd was the master of ceremonies. Guests included Sr. Mary Patrick Murphy (invocation) and Rose Hayes. Classmates came back to Dunkirk from various parts of New York, Florida, California, Georgia, New Hampshire, Ohio, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Virginia, Connecticut, West Virginia and North Carolina.
