Americanism alive and well in county

Editor, OBSERVER:

A sincere thank you from Cassadaga Memorial Post 1280 to those individuals who in any way helped in the recovery of the American and POW-MIA flags, which were taken from the Cassadaga Cemetery Veterans Circle Memorial. Thank you to Dunkirk OBSERVER and The Post-Journal in Jamestown for printing our article concerning the theft, also Great Lakes Tree Service for installing new ropes to the flag poles.

The outpouring of concern was tremendous. Members and non-members of the Legion family expressed shock that any individual would steal flags from a veterans’ memorial.

Some offered donations toward replacement flags. On a recent week an observant citizen noticed flags on private property that looked out of place. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department investigated and returned them to our post.

There are many patriotic citizens in Chautauqua County and we, as veterans, appreciate their constant and generous support. Americanism is alive and well in this great county.
