Agency looks power hungry

Another state authority has run amok.

A recent audit by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli found the New York Power Authority not only pays one-third of its 1,636-member staff more than $100,000 annually, it also has a plane, its own pilots and travel agents.

DiNapoli probably sums it up best: “New Yorkers pay some of the highest electricity rates in the country and need the rate relief that NYPA could provide if it appropriately focused its resources.”

Unfortunately, too many state agencies – including the state Thruway Authority – forget they exist to make this state better. Not a laughingstock.
