Isinbayeva wins pole vault at worlds, Suhr comes in second

MOSCOW (AP) – Yelena Isinbayeva won the gold medal in the pole vault Tuesday, delighting the home crowd with her third world title.

The Russian cleared 16-feet-0 1/2 to beat Olympic champion and Fredonia native Jenn Suhr of the U.S. Yarisley Silva of Cuba, the season’s top performer with a height of 16-0 3/4, took the bronze.

The 31-year-old Isinbayeva plans to take a break for motherhood after the season but could come back for the 2015 world championships in Beijing or the 2016 Rio Olympics.
