Comments are still welcome

Time is of the essence – and, as of today, there are two days left. Two days for you, your neighbor and a co-worker to make a comment on the repowering of the NRG Energy Inc. plant with the Public Service Commission.

Since last month, there has been some good news regarding the Dunkirk facility. More than 2,000 residents attended a hearing at Fredonia State – with more than 95 percent backing repowering – on the plant. And state Sen. Charles Schumer came to town to give his support for the repowering.

It is now up to those of us who have not said or written anything in support. To give a quick statement of support that you back the repowering of the NRG plant from coal to natural gas, here is the contact information:

Chairman Garry A. Brown and Acting Secretary Jeffrey Cohen, NYS Public Service Commission, Agency Bldg. 3, Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY 12223. Please reference Case # 12-E-0577.

Hon. Andrew Cuomo, Governor, New York State, Executive Chamber, NYS Capitol, Albany, NY 12224.

Or link directly to the PSC’s online comment page for this case through the Power Up Western New York Web-site at

A decision will come in two months. A future – of NRG, the city and Chautauqua County – are at stake. Your voice is needed.
