Church to show ‘Brave’ as prequel to VBS
On Friday night, Christ Community Church, located at 219 Berry Road, Fredonia, will screen Disney’s “Brave” for free.
The movie is being shown to kick off Vacation Bible School, which runs mornings Monday-Friday, Aug. 19-26.
Brave is a 2012 American computer-animated fantasy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures.
In the film, set in the Scottish Highlands, a skilled archer named Merida defies an age-old custom, causing chaos in the kingdom by expressing the desire to not marry. After consulting a witch for help, Merida accidentally transforms her mother into a bear and is forced to undo the spell herself before it is too late.
The film’s voice cast features Kelly Macdonald, Julie Walters, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, and Robbie Coltrane. The film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Film, the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film, and the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film.
Pizza will be served free of charge at 6:30 p.m. at the church’s Activity Center. Children will also be making crowns to wear for the upcoming VBS program. The movie will be shown at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary and popcorn will be available.
Christ Community Church thought “Brave” would be the perfect movie to kick off this year’s VBS theme “Kingdom Rock – where kids stand strong for God.” Inside the church will be transformed to look like a castle. The VBS stations include: Epic Bible adventures, tournament games, Chatters Royal Theater, Jolly Jester crafts, the King’s Kitchen, Sing and Play Rock, and Pip’s pre-school.
“Brave” is for children of all ages as well as adults. Parents who would like to have their children attend VBS may register them Friday night. VBS is for children ages 2 to leaving fifth grade.
Children who would like to attend VBS but are unable to attend the movie “Brave” can pre-register their children at www.cccfredonia.org and follow the link. Registration is also available Monday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m.
VBS will run 9 a.m. to noon Monday to Friday. On Friday night at 6:30 will be the closing program, which is for the children as well as their families. Ice cream will be served.
Kingdom Rock is co-sponsored by Fredonia First United Methodist Church and Christian Worship Center in Fredonia. For more information call 673-1661 or 595-2945.
