Golf Tourney to benefit

cardiac rehab programs

Gowanda Country Club will be the site of the annual Dr. Russell J. Joy Memorial Golf Tournament on Wednesday, Aug. 28, in support of cardiac rehab at TLC Health Network, an affiliate of Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York.

For those healing after life-altering heart interventions, having the right equipment is a necessary step in moving toward a healthy future. This year, proceeds from the annual Dr. Russell J. Joy Memorial Golf Tournament have been earmarked to provide the funding necessary for upgraded exercise equipment for cardiac rehab patients at two of Lake Erie Regional Health System’s (LERHSNY) medical facilities – Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving and Gowanda Urgent Care & Medical Center. Improvements at the Gowanda facility are still dependent on pending State approval, however.

The tournament is named in memory of Dr. Joy, a long-time, and much loved physician in the area. Among the equipment purchases officials hope to acquire are a seated recumbent stepper, new treadmills and an elliptical cross-trainer stationary exercise machine.

This year’s tournament will take place at Gowanda Country Club located at 42623 Brown St., Collins, with lunch and registration at 11 a.m. and a shotgun tee-off at noon. The cost is $150 per golfer with discounts available for foursomes and sponsors. This price includes an 18-hole round, a shared cart, a goody bag, lunch and a grilled steak dinner. This year’s tournament hole-in-one prize is a 2013 Dodge Dart, sponsored by Fredonia Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep. Those interested in participating can sign up by calling 951-7041 or sending an email to events@lakeeriehealth.org. Several sponsorship opportunities are still available as well.

Golf to defeat ALS Agents of Hope Golf Tournament

ERA Team VP Real Estate will host its 4th Annual Agents of Hope Golf Tournament on Aug. 28 at the Chautauqua Golf Club.

All proceeds raised during this scramble-style tournament will benefit both the ALS Association and the ALS Division of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. ERA is excited to kick off the tournament’s fourth year following a strong three-year run in which they have been able to raise more than $30,000 for the fight against ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. on Aug. 28, followed by a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. and a dinner provided by Andriaccio’s Restaurant. Lots of fun events will occur throughout the tournament, including raffles, prizes, on-course competitions and an on-course Mojito Bar.

Opportunities for sponsorships and foursomes are still available.

Individual golfers will be matched up with a foursome. Anyone interested in participating may contact Hanna Soffel Briggs at 789-2093.
