Historical Society of Dunkirk sponsors House Tour
The Historical Society of Dunkirk will be sponsoring a House Tour and Art Show on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, in conjunction with the Academy Heights and PARK neighborhood groups.
The tour will cover five historic homes, including the Gross Mansion, formerly the Mindszenty rectory, on Central Avenue. At that location an art show will take place. The artwork is on loan from the collection of work by George Eggers now housed at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center in Buffalo. George Eggers (1883-1958) was the son of a Dunkirk photographer of that era, and he was a successful artist, art director, and art educator. The Eggers home, located on Swan Street, will also be on the tour.
Tickets will be $15.00 and will be available at the following locations: The Dunkirk Historical Museum (513 Washington Avenue from 1-4 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday), the Dunkirk Free Library, P&G Foods on Central Avenue in Dunkirk, Midtown Realty at 20 West Main St. in Fredonia, Henry’s Hair Salon at 22 West Main in Fredonia, and Time Pieces at 23 White Street in Fredonia. All proceeds will benefit the Dunkirk Historical Museum. The tour is part of the City of Dunkirk’s Heritage Festival taking place that weekend.
