Wednesday Travel League

Dave Criscione shot the low round of 78 at Kane Country Club in Kane, Pa. to win the league’s third Grand Slam event of the season, the Pennsylvania Open. Criscione also had the low front nine score of 37. Runner-up, Joe Michalski, shot 80 and had the low back nine score of 40. The B Flight winner was Tim Walawender and Doug Keith won the C Flight on a tiebreaker over John Slaughter, Hector Alverio and Dennis Gawronski Sr. Winner of the Commissioner’s Award for the second straight week was league Commissioner Bruce Chrabasz. Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight: Gary Richardson (No. 6) and Bob Thompson (No. 11). B Flight: Ken Kaus (No. 5), Dave Miller (No. 10), John Waterman (No. 13) and Pat Weaver (No. 17). C Flight: Jack Griswold (No. 2), Slaughter (No. 5), Alverio (Nos. 7 and 13), Angelo Leone (No. 15) and Gary Haase (No. 17).

Closest to the pin were Criscione (Nos. 5 and 7) and Dave Franklin (No. 14). Winners of the Par-3 Contest were Criscione (A Flight, Even Par), Weaver (B-1, over) and Slaughter (C-1, over). Top point winners were Criscione (37), Alverio (36) and Slaughter and Weaver (18 each). Season points leaders: 1) Franklin (325), 2) Michalski (278), 3) Richardson (257), 4) Criscione (251), 5) John Bongiovanni (242).

Next week the league travels to North Hills Golf Course in Corry, Pa. First tee time is at 8:30 a.m. Golfers are asked to be at the course by 8 a.m. and need to sign up with Butch Mackowiak (679-4027) by Monday.

Brocton American Legion Post 434 Wednesday Evening Men’s League – Low gross: Scott Jagoda 38, Dave Willebrandt 38, Gary Arnold 40, Pat Swanson 40 and George Petrella 40. Low net: Petrella 27, Tim Wagner 28, Jay Beers 30 and Tim Lehman 32. Closest to the pin on the par 3’s: Jagoda (No. 4) and Kris Kane (No. 7). Closest to the 150-yard marker on No. 3 was Jay Beers. Most team points taken: Jagoda and Roger Miller 14, Jared Ehmke and Kris Kane 14 and Mike Manzella and Sparky Musso 13.5. Westfield One-Pitch Softball Tourney

The Annual Westfield One-Pitch Slow Pitch Softball Tournament will be held Aug. 24 in Westfield on the softball fields at NorthLake, Smith and Westfield School. Entry fees must be in by Aug. 22.

The tournament will be a double elimination if there are more than 12 teams, and a round-robin format if there are 12 teams or less. This is a one-pitch, slow-pitch format with each batter starting with a 3-2 count. The entry fee is $250 per team. A payout based on 16 teams is $1,000 for first, $500 for second and $250 for third.

Any proceeds will go to the Woody Keyser fund.

Dunkirk sports booster meeting

The Dunkirk High School Sports Booster Club meeting will be held Wednesday, Aug 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the outdoor concession stand by the Football Field.

The fall sports season at Fredonia Central School gets under way Monday, Aug. 19. On that day, the following practices will be held:

Modified Girls Soccer: 9-11 a.m., soccer field

Varsity Girls Soccer: 9 a.m. to noon, soccer field

Girls Tennis 9-10:30 a.m., tennis courts

Girls Swimming: 10 a.m. to noon, pool

Modified Boys Soccer: 6 p.m., behind tennis courts

Varsity Boys Soccer: 6 p.m., behind tennis courts

Cross Country: 4 p.m., SUNY Fredonia Tin Man Hill

Modified Volleyball: 3:15-5 p.m., middle school gym

JV and Varsity Volleyball: 9 a.m. to noon, high school gym

Modified Volleyball: Aug. 29 from 3:15-5 p.m., middle school gym

JV and Varsity Football: 3-6:30 p.m., Wheelock School

All athletes must have their brown form completed and have had a sports physical.
