Anderson-Lee Library to host Mike Randall & Friends
SILVER CREEK – The Anderson-Lee Library will welcome Channel 7 weatherman Mike Randall on Saturday, Aug. 24 at noon for what promises to be a funny, fast-paced show including magic, ventriloquism, audience participation and a strong message about the importance of reading!
Mike Randall & Friends will join the library as they wrap up their celebration of the 2013 Summer Reading Program. There have also been weekly prizes awarded to children for reading books throughout the summer months.
The library was fortunate to be able to add many new children’s books to its collection this summer, thanks to generous funding from the Kiwanis Foundation of Silver Creek and the Friends of the Anderson-Lee Library. Additional funding for programming and prizes was also provided by the Kiwanis, as well as Silver Creek Amvet Post 6472, Green Frog Convenience Store, Valvo’s Candy, PTESS, Community Bank, Rose Brook Golf Course, The D. Wright Charitable Fund, Ortolano’s, Shevlin’s Auto Tech, Silver Creek Optical, Just Pets, Lakeshore Audiology, and individual community members.
After the performance, the library will award three grand prizes to conclude the Summer Reading Program – one for each age category that participated. Prizes include two bicycles with helmets for the winners in the two younger age categories, and a Kindle for the winner of the oldest age category!
The bicycles were generously donated by Silver Creek summer resident Luis Alcivar, founder of the nonprofit organization KarmaRacer, whose mission is to spread the love of bikes, teach the discipline of cycling, and to provide bicycles to those who cannot afford them. Through this donation he hopes to encourage children to develop both their love of reading and riding. The Kindle was donated by the Friends of the Anderson-Lee Library, as part of its continued support of the library’s programs and collections.
