Louis and Bernice (Learman) Joy

Louis and Bernice (Learman) Joy, 11181 W. Lily McKinley Dr., Surprise, Ariz. 85378, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at a party hosted by their children, Mark and Debbie, and their spouses.

Lou and Bea met while Bea was attending SUNY at Fredonia, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Music Education. Lou was owner/operator of Joy’s Atlantic gas and service station. They married on August 8, 1953 at St. Anthony’s Rectory in Fredonia and honeymooned at Lake Placid.

Lou owned several automotive service stations in Fredonia and eventually his son joined him as a partner/owner of Joy’s Service on Rt. 60. Bea was an elementary music teacher for the Dunkirk Public Schools. She and Lou retired in 1981. They moved to Arizona to be near their daughter.

After moving to Arizona, Lou worked at Sine and Ace Hardware stores and now has his own handyman business to keep him busy. Bea became a certified optician and worked at Lenscrafters and other optical stores until she retired for good and enjoys “surfing the ‘Net” in her spare time. The couple have enjoyed taking cruises and traveling around Arizona in their retirement. Their children also live in Arizona.

Bea and Lou enjoy hearing from old friends via email at or via snail mail.
