Motorcycle run and campout for MDA will be at new location

The Ninth Annual Moto-cycle Run and Campout to benefit the Muscular Dys-trophy Association will be held on Aug. 30 and 31 at the Chautauqua Co. Fire-man’s Fraternity, Inc. Camp-grounds in Stockton. This year’s event is hosted by Dunkirk Moniuszko Social Club, Inc. and the Chau-tauqua Chapter of ABATE (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education).

This event will honor Erik Robbins and Brian Robbins, who have been the Good Will Ambassadors for MDA and suffer from this crippling and terminal disease.

The event will be in memory of six individuals: Jane Jusko Eagan, grandmother of Erik and Brian Robbins, who passed away on March 30, 2005; John Mt. Pleasant, who passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2009 and was an avid supporter of MDA and the event; Joan Burns, who passed away on Jan. 22, 2008, at the age of 36 from Muscular Dystro-phy, was an advocate for the handicapped and spearheaded the effort to make all public buildings in Dunkirk handicap accessible; Mike “Cash” Lancaster, founding President of Southwestern Chapter of ABATE, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in July 2005; Richard Piatek who passed away on Dec. 28, 2003, at the age of 33 from this disease; and Joe Lascola, Jr., an avid supporter of MDA and this event, who passed away on May 3, 2011.

This year’s event will begin with Bike Night on Friday, Aug. 30 with live music by Big Tone performing from 6 p.m to 10 p.m. Poorman’s Food Truck will once again be on-site all weekend.

Registration for the Saturday Motorcycle run starts at 10 a.m.; the bikes leave the park at noon. Registration is $20 per person, which includes a chicken barbecue dinner and refreshments after the run. Live music by Gina V and the Barn Cats will be provided from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffles, raffle for a freezer pig (cut and wrapped), raffle for championship Yankees coat.

Other raffles will be set up as donations are received.

All proceeds raised will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Buffalo. Over the past eight years the event has raised $43,625 for the MDA.
