Tuesday Night Men’s League – The final week of play had Team 4 – Pete Gawron, John Waterman, Joe Bifaro, Jaime Ruiz – defeating Team 5, which consisted of Bill Aldrich, Butch Mackowiak, Jerry Dziduch and Dennis Straight, 22.5-17.5, to claim the league championship.

Individual flight winners were: A Flight: Jim Szalkowski; B Flight: Dennis Gawronski Sr.; C Flight: Pat Mackowiak; D Flight: Jaime Ruiz.

All golfers participated in a team scramble won by Team 1, which consisted of Brian Manning, Gawronski, Angelo Leone and Tony Nasca Sr. Closest to the pin on No. 5 was Jack Hood.

The Women Who Golf for Fun – Shooting for first place was Julie Ortendahl while second was held by Pat Kaus and coming in third was Theresa Leone, who was also named Golfer of the Week.

The women will close out their season next week teeing off at 10 a.m., followed by a banquet at Shorewood. In the event of inclement weather, the women should go directly to the country club at 1 p.m.

Monday Night Ladies League – Individual low net: Anita Lancor 35. Individual low gross: Lancor 40. Team low net: Viki Clark and Kathy Hart 76, Lancor and Sally Jo Wright 76. Team low gross: Brenda Hennessey and Barb VanDette 100, Clark and Hart 100.

Wednesday Morning Ladies Purple Posse League – The Purple Posse League game was High and Low, with first place going to Linda DeJoe. There was a tie for second place between Viki Clark and Barb VanDette while third place went to Audrey Parker. The Greenback Prize was won by Bina Todd.

The league is schedule to play on Wednesday, Aug. 28, and will meet at 9:30 a.m., with tee-off set for 10. All skill levels are welcome, and interested golfers can join at any time. The Game of the Week will be Match Play.

Pinehurst Golf Course

ParTee Girls – Lori Foster led the ladies with a low gross of 41, low net of 28, and an eagle on No. 9 while Lynn LaMattina and Amy North followed with a low gross of 44. Kathy Brown carded a 50. Other low-net scores were shot by Carol Somers (29), Bert Vilardo (30), LaMattina (31) and North (31).

Birdies were carded by Margie Coran (No. 5), Colleen Paradis ( No. 6), Brooke Sheesley (No. 9) and LaMattina (Nos. 7 & 9). Margie Coran was closest to the 150-yard marker on No. 2 and Carolyn Rawlinson was closest to the pin on No. 4.


Fredonia 14-U, 12-U

Travel Softball Tryouts

Tryouts for the Fredonia 14-U and 12-U travel softball team will be held on Sept. 7.

Girls trying out for the 14-U team will be on the field at 10 a.m., while those trying out for the 12-U team will be on the field at 12:30 p.m.

All interested players must have turned no older than 12 or 14 by Jan. 1, 2013.

Westfield One-Pitch

Softball Tourney

The Annual Westfield One-Pitch Slow Pitch Softball Tournament will be held Aug. 24 in Westfield on the softball fields at NorthLake, Smith and Westfield School. Entry fees must be in by today.

The tournament will be a double elimination if there are more than 12 teams, and a round-robin format if there are 12 teams or less. This is a one-pitch, slow-pitch format with each batter starting with a 3-2 count. The entry fee is $250 per team. A payout based on 16 teams is $1,000 for first, $500 for second and $250 for third.

Any proceeds will go to the Woody Keyser fund.

Adult Hockey

The Chautauqua County Hockey Association will offer three levels of adult play this season. All games are played at Fredonia State University. The divisions are: A Division (advanced), B Division (intermediate) and C Division (novice).

Anyone interested in participating in any one of the three divisions or have any questions should contact Bill Anderson at 679-1665. The season begins Aug. 30.

Gowanda Soccer and Touch Football Begin in September

There will be two sports programs offered for Gowanda and surrounding area youths this fall that will begin on Sept. 9 and 11 respectively.

On Monday, Sept. 9, the co-ed soccer program for children ages 5-13 will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the George Dispenza Memorial Field on Broadway Road. This program will run for five consecutive Monday nights. Basic skills, group drills and games will take place each week.

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, a touch football program will take place at the same place and time. This program for children ages 8-13 will run for five consecutive Wednesday nights. Instruction will be given each week on specific skills to include: Throwing, catching, punting and kicking a football. Organized games according to age level will be held following the drill sessions.

Fredonia Little League

Fall Baseball League

Fredonia Little League Baseball is offering a six week fall league for players interested in improving their skills. Players must be league age 9, 10, or 11 (Their age as of May 1, 2013).

Games will be played at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings and will not interfere with youth football, soccer or bowling leagues.

The season will begin on Sunday, Sept. 1, and conclude on Sunday, Oct. 6. The cost is $20, which will cover the cost of umpires and baseballs.

Registration will be held today from 6:00-8:00 and Saturday, Aug. 24, from 9-10 a.m., at the Clinton Street complex.

Travel Baseball Team Tryouts

Tryouts for the Jamestown Tigers Travel Baseball Team will be held on Saturday at the Martin Road Sports Complex, in Jamestown, for five age groups.

Tryouts schedule is as follows:

10-U, 9-10:30 a.m.

12-U, 11-12:30 p.m.

14-U & 16-U, 1-3 p.m.

18-U, 2:30-4:30 p.m.
