Encore returning to Chautauqua
CHAUTAUQUA – Encore, an organization dedicated to providing an opportunity for adults 55 and older to experience a choral camp at Chautauqua Institution, is returning for the sixth year and has expanded to include theater and dance/movement. enrollees will arrive Sunday to stay in the Athenaeum and to practice in various venues on the grounds until they will present a concert free to the public on Aug. 30 at 2 p.m in Lenna Hall.
Other free public entertainment events during the week include Margaret Flanigan, soprano, on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Lenna Hall, featuring selections from the Geat American Songbook, American art songs, Italian arias and more; and Marcia Talley, mystery author, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., Lenna Hall, who will speak on “The Mind of the Mystery Writer;” and Brady Ryan, from Grand Circle Travel, also that night, speaking on “Traveling the Great Rivers of Europe.”
The Encore Choral Institute will bring back Encore founder Jeanne Kelly and Dr. Barry Talley, retired director of musical activities for the U.S. Naval Academy, as conductors. Encore currently has 13 choral programs in the Greater Baltimore-Washington area, as well as Affiliate programs in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Utah.
