Pet events set for Saturday at Fredonia Farm Festival

LeeAnne Cogdill of Sirius Dog School and Melissa Congdon of Pawistively Pretty and Handsome Dog Grooming announce Mutt-minister, a new family dog show on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Fredonia Farm Festival.

For 27 years, children of all ages have been invited to bring pets of all sorts to the annual show held Saturday morning at the festival. For most of that time, adults have asked for a dog show open to the entire family. Muttminister answers that request, an opportunity for everyone to strut the mutt.

Dogs of every age and sort are welcome: mutts and pure-bred cousins; obedient and slightly naughty; handsome and plain; performing and without a trick. Dogs with a story: from rescues to heroes, are particularly welcome. The two sponsors are proud to salute their own rescues: Congdon’s blind Boxer, DJ, and Cogdill’s once terrified Border Collie, Peggotty.

At 10 a.m., the annual FFF Children’s Pet Show will proceed as in years past.

Children young enough to ride in strollers to old enough to take driver’s ed are invited to bring pets of every sort. Dogs and cats are expected, but through the years more unusual pets have been and are welcome: stuffed animals, butterflies (and their cocoons) snakes, lizards, chickens, goats, birds, rabbits, gerbils, chinchillas and a performing crab are expected and surprises are hoped for.

Parents are welcome to appear in the ring to help maintain law and order, but may not compete. All family members may appear in the afternoon show. Participa-tion in both events is free. Registration is not required.
