Twenty years ago – 1993

The management of AL Tech Specialty Steel Corp. announced the appointment of Rocco Teta to the position of plant manager of the Dunkirk plant. A native of Troy, he began his career with AL Tech in 1953 at the Watervliet Plant of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. His most recent position was in Dunkirk as manager of operations. Mr. Teta currently resides in Dunkirk and is a member of Shorewood Country Club.

Thirty years ago – 1983

The main topic of concern discussed at the regular monthly meeting of the Fredonia-Pomfret Youth Board was the need for a new site for the Hub Teen Center. The teen center would have to be relocated because of the planned Darwin R. Barker Library expansion project. Various locations in downtown Fredonia for the teen center were proposed.

Forty years ago – 1973

The Ray Burgun Trucking Co. of Brocton recently demolished the former Van Raalte garment plant on Ruggles Street in Dunkirk. This was the largest of 78 buildings to be razed under the city’s 54.2-acre urban renewal program.

Fifty years ago – 1963

William, 12, and Leonard, 10, the sons of Mr. and Mrs. George Hausenbauer, 417 Woodrow Ave., Dunkirk own the latest Pets of the Week. They are “Fluffy,” “Tricky,” and “Bunny Boy,” all 4-month-old rabbits.
