Fredonia brush pickup today

The village of Fredonia will be picking up limbs and yard waste beginning today. Collection will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until every village street has been collected once.

Bags and brush are collected separately by different crews. All items for collection must be at the curb no later than 7 a.m. Monday.

In no case will there be repeat collection of areas completed.

All yard waste must be bagged and all limbs and brush must be tied with twine.

Limbs and brush must be cut no longer than four feet in length with bundles being no larger than 18 inches in diameter.

Bundles and bags are limited to 65 pounds in weight. There is no collection of loose material.

Village residents may bring bagged yard waste and bundled brush to the designated area at the DPW yard, 176 Eagle St. at any time. The drop off area will be available until further notice.

The cooperation of residents is greatly appreciated. The next scheduled pick-up will start on Sept. 23.

Annual Bike Run & Campout for MDA

to be held Aug. 30-31 at new location

The annual Bike Run & Campout for the Muscular Dystrophy Association will be held Aug. 30-31 at a new location, the Chautauqua County Fireman’s Fraterni-ty Campgrounds at 4641 Railroad Ave. W. in Stock-ton.

On Friday, there will be live music from 6 to 10 p.m. by Big Tone band, with overnight camping available.

On Saturday, registration for the bike run begins at 10 a.m.; kickstands up at noon. The $20 registration fee includes the bike run, dinner, refreshments and live music.

The chicken barbecue dinner will begin at 5 p.m., and will cost $10 for those not participating in the bike run.

Live music from 6 to 10 p.m. will be provided by Gina V and the Barn Cats.

The event will also feature a “poorman’s food truck,” a silent auction, 50/50, raffles and more.

The event is sponsored by the Dunkirk Moniuszko Club and ABATE of Chautauqua.

It is held in memory of Jane Jusko Eagan, Mike “Cash” Lancaster, Richard D. Piatek, John Mt. Pleasant, Joan Burns and Joe Lascola Jr.

Fredonia BOE to hold special meeting Tuesday evening

The Fredonia Board of Education will hold a workshop meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the high school library.

The purpose of the meeting is to set down board goals, review committee goals and identify items to discuss with Dr. David O’Rourke regarding BOCES services and offerings.

Common Council’s Finance Committee meets today

The Dunkirk Common Council Finance Committee is scheduled to meet today at 4:15 p.m. in City Hall.

On the agenda is a review of the status of accounts concerned with revenues being generated by the wastewater fund’s industrial users.

An update on insurance, along with reports from the city treasurer and fiscal affairs officer, are also scheduled. Committee Chairman Michael Michalski has also scheduled a review of any pending procurement resolutions and needed budget modifications, along with a review of a service contract with KVS.

Pomfret ZBA to hold continuation meeting Tuesday afternoon

A meeting of the town of Pomfret Zoning Board of Appeals will take place on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the town hall.

This meeting is a continuation of the meeting held on Aug. 12 regarding a request for an area variance and a special use permit from Sidney Potmesil for the construction of a storage shed at 8096 Bear Lake Road.

The original meeting was tabled for the purpose of conducting a site visit by the members of the ZBA.

DHS Class of 1964 planning 50th reunion; meeting Wednesday

The Dunkirk High School Class of 1964 is planning its 50th reunion for 2014.

The first meeting of the planning committee will be Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Kosciusko Club downstairs.

Refurbished Cassadaga Library to hold Open House on Friday

The Cassadaga Branch of the Mary E. Seymour Memorial Library will have an Open House from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

The public is invited to stop by to view the recently refurbished library. Refreshments will be served.

The Cassadaga Library is located at 18 Maple Ave.

Joint meeting today of Westfield, Brocton school boards

The Boards of Education from Westfield Academy and Brocton Central Schools will hold a joint meeting today at 6 p.m. at Westfield Academy and Central School.

American Legion Post 59 to host annual Car Cruise Friday night

American Legion Post 59 at 156 E. Main St. in Fredonia will host its fifth annual Car Cruise on Friday from 6 to 10 p.m.

Live music will be provided by Sammy Slicker & the Blackjacks.

There will be door prizes, a 50/50 and silent auction, hotdogs and more.

All proceeds will go to the Chautauqua Veterans’ Van.
