Cassadaga finalizes Labor Day Weekend events
CASSADAGA – The Labor Day weekend will have much activity in the village of Cassadaga.
All are welcome to attend all events. Mayor LeeAnn Lazarony and Trustee Mike Lehnen have been in charge of the planned events to make the time a good old-fashioned community event.
On Saturday, the grand parade will begin at 4 p.m. along Maple Avenue in the village.
Lineup, with Mayor Lazarony in charge, will be on Frisbee Road and then the parade will travel from that area toward the fire hall.
The speakers stand, using a flatbed truck provided by Fredrickson Builders Supply, will be on Maple Avenue. Dan Thorp will take charge of the speaker system.
The parade marshall this year is John Runkle, past town of Stockton Super-visor. Runkle will be riding in an old World War II Jeep driven by its owner, Steve Lehnen.
All those participating in the parade should be at the lineup no later than 3:30 p.m. The parade will conclude at the Cassadaga Fire Hall parking lot on Mill Street.
Trustee Lehnen said he wants this to be a time for everyone to watch the parade and then stand around and visit with their neighbors and friends.
Following the parade, Trustee Lehnen said that hot dogs and soda will be provided by the community and available to all in the fire hall parking lot. Trustee Lehnen said that “Smokie” will be in charge of cooking the hot dogs.
Cassadaga Lakes Assoc-iation President Cindy Riggle said that the Lakes Association will also hold its annual events in conjunction with the parade. Riggle said the annual Ducky Derby will be held at the lake outlet at the corner of Maple Avenue and Mill Street and begin at 5:30 p.m. Ducks may be purchased just prior to the derby or from association members. There are many prizes to be awarded.
On Sunday afternoon, the annual end of the summer boat parade will be held beginning at 3:30 p.m. and will conclude at the Cassadaga Beach area. At 4 p.m., the annual Steel Band Concert will be held in the beach area. The Cassadaga American Legion 1280 Sons will hold their annual corn and sausage roast at the legion hall, and invite all to participate.
As trustee Lehnen said, everyone is invited, and we want everyone to have a good time, a time to remember.
