Fredonia-Pomfret Community Movie Night Thursday

The Fredonia-Pomfret Recreation Department will hold a Community Movie Night Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at the Russell Joy Park Baseball Field. The feature film “Shrek” will be displayed on a 16′ by 9′ inflatable screen using a high-definition projector. The performance was made possible by the Fredonia Beaver Club, which donated $5,000 toward the purchase of the equipment.

“Once again, the Beaver Club has come through in a big way for our community. There is no way equipment like this could be budgeted for,” Recreation Director Tom Battaglia said.

The screen will be displayed in the outfield. Community members should feel free to bring lawn chairs or blankets to use for extra comfort.

Gowanda hosts blood drive today in honor

of Jadyn Salgado

Residents of Gowanda are partnering with the American Red Cross to host a special “Communities That Care” blood drive in honor of Jadyn Salgado, a 5-year-old from Dunkirk who was born with an immune disorder today from noon p.m. to 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 409 at 100 Legion Drive in Gowanda.

Jadyn was born with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, a condition in which the immune system coats platelets with antibodies, ultimately destroying them.

Jadyn is preparing to enter first grade this fall in Dunkirk. Her grandmother, Sandy Jakubowski, said she’s doing well and visits the doctor every six months to have her platelet levels checked.
