Gens shines as Fredonia blanks Gowanda

The Fredonia Hillbillies got off to an impressive start with a 5-0 sweep of the Gowanda Panthers on Thursday in CCAA Division 1 girls high school tennis.

In first singles, Georgianna Gens was dominant with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jessica Sowa.

“Georgianna played very well for her first match out this season,” Fredonia coach Mike Hirschbeck said. “She played a lot this summer and it was evident today.”

Also having a solid day on the court was Fredonia’s first doubles team of Marina Kessler and Kelsey Vianese as they defeated Alayna Swartz and Elyssa Poff, 6-1, 6-1.

Fredonia will take on Southwestern on Wednesday.
