SINCLAIRVILLE – The Forestville girls volleyball team opened its season in convincing fashion by defeating Cassadaga Valley 25-19, 25-9, 25-10 in a CCAA non-league contest Friday in Cassadaga.
“We got better as the match went on,” said Forestville head coach Jack Dugan. “I thought we were a little tentative early due to some first game nerves. But we settled down and ran what we wanted to run. That first game didn’t surprise me but I liked the way we settled down and composed ourselves during sets two and three.”
Alisha Szumigala led the Lady Hornets with nine kills while Sierra Tweedie added five kills and Lizzy Gilman chipped in with four. Ashley Van Buskirk had 11 assists for Forestville and Sierra Tweedie contributed 11 digs and three aces.
Cassadaga Valley was led by Christine Seibert with nine digs. Kodie Hoyt had five kills and Alyssa Hahm added three assists in a losing effort.
“We played good volleyball,” said Cassadaga Valley head coach Jodi Hoffman. “We showed improvement and really good hustle. We were scrappy and are really looking forward to our opening league match with Randolph on Sept. 4.”
