Church presents check to member who lost home in a fire
SHERIDAN – On Aug. 4, the Sheridan United Methodist Church at 2679 Route 20 presented a check for $3,500 to congregation member Kevin Franklin.
Franklin and his family lost their home and belongings to a fire in May. The home was a total loss. The congregation made a commitment to help the family with their financial and personal needs.
The money was raised at Sheridan Day, held at Sheridan UMC on July 13. This is a yearly event which is part of a large community effort. Proceeds from a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue, bake sale, raffle, and silent auction were given to the family.
Administrative Board Chairman Terry Niebel stated, “This is just one more example of the generosity of the people in our area. They rise to the occasion to help those in need and the Sheridan United Methodist Church was honored to host this event. We owe a debt of gratitude to all the congregation who helped by organizing, contributing and participating in the event. We also want to thank the individuals and merchants who donated to the Chinese auction which offered over 115 items to choose from.”
Area merchants who donated to the silent auction and Sheridan Day activities included Avon, Barnes Greenhouse, Basil Chevrolet, Blasdell Pizza, Burger King, Campis’ Pizza, Cave’s Market, Community Bank, Creation Station, Designer Pools, Franklin’s Honey & Apples, Fredonia Animal Hospital, H&R Block, Just Pets, Kirk’s Jewelry, Liberty Vineyards Winery, M&R Florist and Greenhouses, McDonald’s, Merritt Estate Winery, Morgan Stanley/Smith Barney, O’Malia’s Liquors, Olde Corner Deli, The Paper Factory, Petri’s, Pucci’s Carpets, Sears, Sheridan Memorial VFW Post 6390, Snow Ridge Motel, Tractor Supply Store, Tuscany Market, Valvo’s Candies, Walmart, Western New York Helicopters, Willow Creek Winery and Wing City Grill.
