Brocton trounces Frewsburg

Brocton 42, Frewsburg 0 – The Brocton varsity midget football team put in a well-rounded effort as they moved easily past Frewsburg Saturday night.

Brocton had four offensive touchdowns as David Miller accounted for two of them. Miller ran one in from four yards out and another from 45 while Ronald Brown scored on a two-yard jaunt and Hunter Rizzo from 20 yards out.

The defense was led by Jordan Krystofiak with 13 tackles and Dylin Williams who had five tackles and two interceptions for touchdowns. Nick Putcher had a forced fumble that was recovered by Hunter Evans in the win.

Friday Night Couples’ Outing – The evening’s format was a two-couple scramble with the low scores going to John Lakas, Paula Lakas, Bob Manning and Jan Manning with a 34. Next, with a 35, were Fritz Worosz, Nancy Crandall, Dennis Gawronski and Cheryl Gawronski, as well as Phil DiFrancisco, Greg McQuiggan, Ashley Coomber, Chuck Hudson and Carole Hudson, Dave Paradis, Colleen Paradis, Chris Penfold, Priscilla Penfold, Pat Deering and Bobbi Deering. Next, with a score of 36, was the team of Pete Borzilleri, Colleen Borzilleri, Larry Tibbetts and Rosemary Tibbetts. Jim Ellman, Jane Ellman and Betty Burke Bartkowiak shot a 37 while Lynn Bryan and Linda Blodgett carded a 38.

Lucky Lanes Junior Bowlers

Registration for the 2013-14 season will be held on Sept. 7, Sept. 8, Sept. 14 and Sept. 15 at Lucky Lanes, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day. Registration fee is $17 for youth bowlers aged 4-20 years old as of Aug. 1, 2013.

Teams may be set up as all boys, all girls or mixed and leagues will start on Sept. 21. Bowlers aged 6-20 can bowl at either 10 a.m., or 1 p.m. Bowlers aged 4-5 will participate in the Bumper Buddies League, which will bowl at 1 p.m.

Golf Tournament

The Gary Tripp Memorial Golf Tournament (GTMGT) plans are being finalized. The 2013 tournament is set for Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Shorewood C.C. in Dunkirk with sign-ins starting at 10 a.m., lunch at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon. There will be prizes and/or games at each hole. The banquet and awards ceremony will follow at the Kosciuszko Club after which the band “US” will be performing.

Registration forms for golfers have been mailed to all 2012 Captains. Sponsor letter and forms have been sent out as well. Golfers may also get forms and sign up at the Kosciuszko Club on Nevins St. with an $80 fee for each participating golfer. Extra Sponsor forms will also be available at the club. Questions? Raffle tickets are available to the public and golfers for an iPod, a functional glass putter and a fold-up shelter with four sling back chairs. Monies raised from the past four tournaments have been used to establish an annual Gary Tripp Colorectal Cancer Research Fund at Roswell Park, an annual GTMGT Dunkirk High School scholarship and an annual GTMGT SUNY Fredonia scholarship.

Fredonia 14-U, 12-U

Travel Softball Tryouts

Tryouts for the Fredonia 14-U and 12-U travel softball team will be held on Sept. 7.

Girls trying out for the 14-U team will be on the field at 10 a.m., while those trying out for the 12-U team will be on the field at 12:30 p.m.

All interested players must have turned no older than 12 or 14 by Jan. 1, 2013.

Gowanda Soccer and Touch Football Begin in September

There will be two sports programs offered for Gowanda and surrounding area youths this fall that will begin on Sept. 9 and 11, respectively.

On Monday, Sept. 9, the co-ed soccer program for children ages 5-13 will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the George Dispenza Memorial Field on Broadway Road. This program will run for five consecutive Monday nights. Basic skills, group drills and games will take place each week.

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, a touch football program will take place at the same place and time. This program, for children ages 8-13, will run for five consecutive Wednesday nights. Instruction will be given each week on specific skills to include: Throwing, catching, punting and kicking a football. Organized games according to age level will be held following the drill sessions.

Tryouts for Dunkirk-Fredonia Steelers set for Sept. 8

Tryouts for the Dunkirk-Fredonia Steelers high school hockey team will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 4-5 p.m., at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.

There will be a $10 fee for all players trying out. Players must be in grades 8 through 12 to be eligible, and all eight-grade players must pass a physical fitness test.

Players are encouraged to bring a light and dark jersey with their name and number on it.
