Blue Devil Divers

The Blue Devil Divers offer an instructional diving program for all levels of springboard diving from “Learn to Dive” to “Advanced” training. Experienced coaches will be on hand to safely instruct divers in fun and motivating sessions. Competitive opportunities are available to all divers, ages 5-18 years old.

All sessions are conducted at the Steele Hall Natatorium on the Fredonia State campus. Blue Devil Diving is affiliated with the Amateur Athletic Union and U.S. Diving. All members must register with the AAU in order to participate.

Christian Torres is the head coach of the club. While at SUNY Fredonia, Torres became a two-time All-American and SUNYAC Diving Champion. In August, he captured a gold and silver medal that the 2013 USA Diving Summer National Masters Diving competition at the University of Michigan. Coach Torres is assisted by current members of the Fredonia State Dive Team.

Classes are held Friday and Sunday, starting on Sept. 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the Steele Hall pool.

Golf Tournament Set

The Annual Bob North Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Tri-County Country Club on Sept. 22.

This is a four-man scramble with 10 a.m. registration and donuts, 11 a.m. shotgun, snacks at turn, lunch following golf. Entry covers square in football pool. Fees are $65 non-member and $40 member. Basketball Officiating

Course Begins Sept. 11

The annual basketball officiating course offered by the Chautauqua County Board of Approved Officials begins Sept. 11 in Room 250 of Jamestown High School.

The 11-week course, held each Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., concludes with the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials examination in November. Male or female candidates need to be 18 years of age to take the course.

Veteran CCBOA board rules interpreter Roger MacTavish teaches the course, which prepares candidates for the IAABO examination and the chance to officiate area boys’ and girls’ basketball games.

The City of Dunkirk Recreation Department is seeking any interested Flag?Football players and teams.

Prospective players and managers should attend a meeting on?Wednesday,?Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sterns Building, 338 Central?Ave., second floor.

Tryouts for

Dunkirk-Fredonia Steelers set for Sept. 8

Tryouts for the Dunkirk-Fredonia Steelers high school hockey team will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 4-5 p.m., at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.

There will be a $10 fee for all players trying out. Players must be in grades 8 through 12 to be eligible, and all eighth-grade players must pass a physical fitness test.

Players are encouraged to bring a light and dark jersey with their name and number on it.

There will be a Try Hockey For Free event on Sept. 7 at the Steele Hall Ice Arena, from 1-2:30 p.m. Equipment is provided for the first 80 participants.

Monday Night Ladies League – The League concluded its 2013 season with the following results – First place: Barb VanDette and Brenda Hennessey. Tied for second: Jeanne Pagano/Marcia Casella and Anita Lancor/Sandy Destro.

The prize for the least amount of putts for the season went to Barb VanDette with Anita Lancor second. The end of the season banquet was held for all members and subs. Jeanne Pagano gave the treasurer’s report. Co-president Brenda Hennessey gave out the awards and co-president Barb VanDette gave the business report.

Wednesday Morning Ladies Purple Posse League – The Purple Posse League game was pull the tees. First place went to Viki Clark, second place went to Linda DeJoe and third place went to Barb VanDette. There were three greenback prize winners Marcia Casella, Barb VanDette and Jeanne Pagano.

The League had its end of season picnic hosted by Viki Clark. The Purple Posse will continue to play until the end of September.
