Eagles take down?Hornets in five

NORTH COLLINS – It took five sets, but North Collins (1-0) was able to open its season with a 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 18-25, 25-23 CCAA East II girls volleyball win over Forestville.

“In the fifth game, we were down 23-16 and came back and won,” North Collins’ head coach Dave Burgstahler said. “We have two senior starters and all the rest of them are young.”

Angela Filkov had 40 assists for the Lady Eagles while Arrika Bley added 15 kills in the win.

For Forestville, Baylee Gloss had 14 digs and Alisha Szumigala charted 10 kills and four blocks.


Silver Creek 25 25 25

Pine Valley 20 14 18

SILVER CREEK – Jordan Brooks recorded eight kills and five blocks as the Silver Creek Black Knights (2-0, 1-0) swept the Pine Valley Lady Panthers (0-1), 25-20, 25-14, 25-18, Wednesday in non-league girls high school volleyball.

Cora Utegg contributed in the win with 10 assists while Kate Gallivan added five digs for the winners. Mary Williams had eight aces for the Black Knights.

“They have great offense and we fell short a few times,” Pine Valley coach Justina Troutman said.

The Lady Panthers were led by Kayla Mansfield’s three kills and as many aces while Aleah Fancher had two kills and five digs in a losing effort. Ahleen Pollock finished with 17 assists and two aces in a losing effort.

Pine Valley hosts Panama on Friday.

Fredonia 18 18 17

MAYVILLE – Jenna Einink had 17 kills, seven digs, two aces and a block for Chautauqua Lake as the Lady Thunderbirds cruised past Fredonia in non-league girls volleyball action Tuesday, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17.

Ashton Albanesius added 10 kills and six digs in the win while Kylee Braymiller chipped in five kills, four aces and two digs. Also for Chautauqua Lake, Tara Hunt had 18 assists, seven digs and two kills while Katie Meadows contributed 14 assists, two kills and as many digs.

For Fredonia, Maddy Crandall led the way with 10 assists and three kills while Lea Richir had 15 digs. Also for the Lady Hillbillies, Makenzie Tarnowski had four kills and Emily Ludwig charted three kills and two blocks.
