Lady T’birds knock off improving Marauders

The Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds (3-1, 2-1) had a strong performance in defeating Dunkirk (0-4, 0-3), 4-1, Tuesday in CCAA West girls high school tennis.

In first singles, Chautauqua Lake’s Samantha Robbins-Welty blanked Crystal Muller, 6-0, 6-0 while in second singles, teammate Janelle Lysanski downed Ally Clement, 6-1, 6-1.

Despite Clement’s loss, Dunkirk coach Greg Catalano noted she won her first two games of the season.

In third singles, Chautauqua Lake’s Samantah Bauers shut out Caitlyn Chase, 6-0, 6-0.

The Lady Thunderbirds’ first doubles team of Autumn Chanski and Corrinne Elliot edged Sydney Wiant and Stephanie Miller, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.

Dunkirk’s only win came in second doubles as Hannah Smith-Wilson and Shawna Barberich defeated Olivia Sayers and Amber McKearny, 7-6, 6-3.

“The girls have been improving with every match,” Catalano said. “They are just coming on. They played a great game. First doubles was a great job.”
