Vehicle break-ins reported in Hanover, elsewhere

The OBSERVER recently received a news tip reporting a rash of vehicle break-ins in the Hanford Bay area of Hanover during Labor Day weekend.

Sheriff Joseph Gerace said the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is aware of vehicle break-ins and larcenies taking place all over the town. He said patrol has been advised and an investigator has been assigned to the case.

Gerace said they are looking for the help of the public and ask any suspicious activity be reported to the police immediately. He said residents should also lock their cars and keep valuables out of sight to help avoid break-ins and larcenies.

He also explained the sheriff’s office does not always release a report of unsolved burglaries or larcenies because it could compromise the investigation of that case.
