The roundabout traffic pattern will begin today at the intersection of routes 5, 20 and 438 in Irving.

Brocton Homecoming activities canceled

All Homecoming activities at Brocton Central School scheduled for this week have been canceled until further notice.

Youth council meeting at Job Corps Thursday

The Chautauqua County Workforce Development Youth Council will hold a meeting Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at Cassadaga Job Corps, 8115 Glasgow Road, Cassadaga.

The meeting is open to the public.

Lupus Alliance meeting scheduled

The Lupus Alliance of Upstate New York will hold a New Patient Orientation meeting on Wednesday at the Lupus Alliance Office, 3871 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

All newly diagnosed Lupus patients, their families and friends are welcome. There will be current literature available as well as a video and time for questions. There is no charge for the program; however, reservations are necessary.

Hanover railroad crossing to be closed Thursday

The railroad crossing in Sunset Bay will be closed starting Thursday at 7 a.m. and will remain closed until 7 p.m. on Friday. The access road will be open according to Steve D’Angelo, Hanover highway superintendent.

Barker Library to hold summer vacation-themed program Saturday

Parents, guardians and children are invited to Barker Library in Fredonia on Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon for “What Did You Do On Your Summer Vacation?” The school year may have started, but minds are still on summer! Join Barker Library staff for stories, movies and crafts. Bring a souvenir or photo and tell everyone about summer adventures. All children are welcome.

‘AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day’ will mark LHS anniversary

On Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m., the Lakeshore Humane Society will hold an “AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day” to commemorate the first anniversary of its Adoption Center at 431 E. Chestnut St. in Dunkirk.

The afternoon will be filled with activities: An adoption day and open house, raffles, door prizes, doggie and children’s games, doggie artwork, photo booth, snacks and more. All are welcome to meet the dogs and cats in need of homes and to have a fun-filled afternoon.

Owners can bring their dogs and gain some tips about responsible dog ownership. Perfect Pooch Dog Training is sharing in the sponsorship of this event.
