Defensive battles

SILVER CREEK – The Forestville Lady Hornets (4-1, 3-1) swept the Silver Creek Black Knights (3-2, 1-2), 25-18, 25-22, 25-14, Monday in CCAA East II League girls high school volleyball.

Alisha Szumigala led the charge for the Lady Hornets with seven kills and two blocks. Lizzy Gilman and Elanena Oyler each had five kills for the winners. Gilman also had three aces.

The Black Knights were led by Mary Williams’ four kills, five digs and seven aces. Jordan Brooks added three kills and four blocks in a losing effort.

Silver Creek hosts Gowanda on Wednesday.

Pine Valley rallies past Gowanda

GOWANDA – The Pine Valley Lady Panthers (4-4, 2-2) dropped the first game, but rallied in the final three to take down Gowanda (0-3), 3-1, Monday in CCAA East II League girls high school volleyball.

Scores of the match were not available at press time.

Aleah Fancher and Kayla Mansfield led Pine Valley as they combined for 19 kills while Aaren Waterman had 11 blocks for the winners.

Gowanda was led by Syd Gominiak’s six kills, six digs and six aces. Tia Thompson added 10 kills, five digs and three aces in a losing effort.

The Lady Panthers won the jayvee match.

Gowanda travels to Silver Creek on Wednesday.

North?Collins 25 23 25 25

West Valley 11 25 19 12

NORTH COLLINS – North Collins (3-2,3-0) was able to hang on and defeat a scrappy West Valley (2-4, 1-4) team 3-1 Monday in a CCAA East II league matchup. West Valley won the second game to even the score at one game apiece but North Collins took the next two games to earn the victory 25-11, 23-25, 25-19, 25-12.

Angela Filkov led North Collins’ with 28 assists and five aces. Jasmine Filkov contributed 10 kills while Arrika Bley had seven kills of her own in the win.

“West Valley played really hard,” said North Collins coach Dave Burgstahler. “They had a lot of digs and really went after it. I think we took them for granted a little in the middle and let them take a game but overall West Valley plays hard.”

Stephanie Fchweickert had seven kills and 15 digs for West Valley. Teammate Kenzie Czapla recorded 27 digs in a losing effort.
