Lucky Lanes Junior Bowlers

Anyone who missed registration can still join the Lucky Lanes Junior Bowlers.

The season starts Sept. 21. There are openings in all leagues/age levels, including the Bumper Buddies program for 4 and 5 years-old. Bowling times are on Saturday at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m.

Bills Booster Club

The Southern Tier Bills Booster Club will watch the Buffalo Bills vs New York Jets game on Sunday at the Kosciuszko Club’s annual pig roast.

Tailgate starts at 3 p.m. Game time is 4:25 p.m.

Fredonia Little League

Fredonia Little League will be holding elections of officers on Sept. 24, at 7 p.m., at the American Legion Fredonia Post 59, 156 E. Main St., Fredonia.

Fredonia State swimming alumni reunion

The Fredonia State swim teams are having a Swimming Alumni Reunion on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Steele Hall pool.

Festivities begin at noon, a meet against Geneseo begins at 1 p.m.

Other activities are planned. It is 50 years since the program was initiated by Coach Charles Dennis. It is 25 years since the 1988 Blue Devils won the SUNYAC Championship. All old mermen and mermaids are invited.

Levi Moore scored three touchdowns and Conner Crabtree scored once for Cassadaga Valley.

Ty Paterson led the Cougars’ defense with two sacks and a forced fumble.

Tanner Ramsey led Sherman’s offense and scored on a 60-yard touchdown.

College Scene

Vona takes first again

Kim Vona (Angola/Lake Shore) finished as the individual champion for the second race in a row as she won the University of Rochester YellowJacket Invitational this past Saturday.

Vona finished the 6K course in 22:36, eight seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Thirteen schools participated and the Niagara Women finished fifth, with Ithaca taking first place.

Smith off to solid defensive start at W&J

Washington & Jefferson College sophomore linebacker Shane Smith (Fredonia/Fredonia) is making the most of his playing time through two starts in the 2013 season. Smith ranks second on the team with 15 tackles, eight solo and seven assisted. During his rookie campaign, Smith compiled 12 total tackles all season, primarily on special teams as he saw most time as backup quarterback.

In the season opener at Wooster, Smith registered five solo tackles, including a two-yard tackle for loss. In addition to his 15 tackles, Smith forced a fumble in the final minute of the team’s second contest of the year at St. John Fisher.
