Dunkirk Memorial Unit 62 American Legion Auxiliary

Dunkirk Memorial Unit 62 American Legion Auxiliary met Sept. 10 in the Clubrooms on Central Ave.

President Del Jusko opened the meeting. Chaplain Anna Schlichter offered a prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

As this was the first meeting of the year, no reports were given.

The Executive Committee was elected. Jean Sutton, Pat Kebbe and Dawn Ransom received the vote.

Discussions were held on increasing the treasury. Many events are planned for the future.

Delegates will attend the County meeting on Thursday in Mayville at the William L. Travis American Legion.

A POW-MIA service will be held at Post 62 on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. All members are asked to attend. The public is also welcome.

With no further business, the chaplain offered another prayer.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.

The Board of Directors met recently to discuss upcoming events. The next scheduled event is the Columbus Day Harvest Dinner, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph Church in Fredonia. Members and their guest are requested to bring a dish to pass, their own place setting and a beverage (if desired) other than coffee. Please call Nance Ortolano at 673-9177 for reservations. Gather the fruits of your garden and join us for a fun night celebrating one of the most famous Italians in history! Attending the dinner will be members from SUNY Fredonia’s Italian Club, Unione Italiana and newly appointed Dean of Visual and Performing Arts, Ralph Blasting and his wife, Laurie Detenbeck, who has a master’s degree in Italian. You may even learn a fun thing about Christopher Columbus.

Other events on CIAO’S Agenda are: (plans being finalized as to place and time) , cooking class; pizza, wine and cards; and trips to Italian festivals. Suggestions for future plans include A Taste Of Italy, an invitation to local restaurants to highlight Italian Food, where patrons vote on their favorite restaurant and Italian dish, shared activities with SUNY Fredonia, Unione Italiana, and Italian language classes. Members and their guests are invited to participate in any activity and new members are always welcome.
