One hurt in Thruway rollover
PORTLAND – The westbound lanes of the Thruway in New York’s southwest corner have reopened after being closed when a tractor-trailer hauling propane tanks crashed off the highway.
State police say the truck went off Interstate 90, overturned and rolled down an embankment around 11:10 p.m. Wednesday in the Chautauqua County town of Portland, 45 miles southwest of Buffalo.
Troopers say the driver, Richard Kingsley, 57 from Silver Creek, suffered head injuries and is in fair condition at a hospital in Erie, Pa.
Police say none of the propane tanks leaked.
Westbound traffic was diverted off the highway at Exit 59 at Dunkirk and onto Route 20. Motorists could re-enter the Thruway’s westbound lanes at Exit 60 at Westfield.
The westbound lanes reopened around 2:20 a.m. Thursday.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
