Fredonia gets revenge on Maple Grove, 3-2
Fredonia (5-3) avenged its early-season loss to Maple Grove (6-2) Tuesday, as it won 3-2, in CCAA West girls tennis action.
Georgie Gens remained undefeated on the year, as she gave the Lady Hillbillies a good start in first singles after dispatching the Lady Red Dragons’ Corrine Cardinale, 6-0, 6-0.
In second singles, Baylee Tarnowski took care of Maple Grove’s Paige Bentham, 6-0, 6-1, but it was the third-singles match between Lady Hillbilly Lauren Millson and Lady Red Dragon Morgan Lehman that impressed Fredonia head coach Mike Hirschbeck.
“She played very well and came through in the third set,” Hirschbeck said of Millson, who won, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, to secure the win for the Lady Hillbillies. “Georgie Gens has not been beaten this year and Baylee played very well. But it was the third singles match that was the deciding match.”
Maple Grove took both the doubles matches as Christina Walter and Yuika Sazuki defeated Marina Kessler and Sarah Zinni, 6-4, 6-4, and Meghan Allenson and Sam Hallet upended Alli Polisoto and Bailey Flores, 6-1, 6-2.
