Dunkirk picks up first win of season

MAYVILLE – The Dunkirk Marauders picked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Chautauqua Lake on Wednesday in CCAA West boys high school soccer.

Dunkirk’s Gianni DeJesus scored the game’s lone goal in the first half. Antonio Robles and Chris Michalski were credited with the assists.

However, the win came at a price as Dunkirk’s Adrian Vega left the game with a potentially season-ending injury as it appeared he broke his collarbone, according to Dunkirk coach Mike Green.

“It felt like today we got the right mix and now we will have to mix and match,” Green said. “It’s nice to break into the win column and get some offense going today. Every guy pulled their weight today and played steady. Everyone has to play good and everyone contributed. It was a total team effort.”

Tyler Kubasik was the winning goalie.

“It was a real good team effort,” Silver Creek head coach Dan Foy said. “And we got to clear our bench in the second half. It was nice to see them get a lot of playing time.”

Sack’s first goal came in the 4th minute on an assist from Nate Serio, with his second coming on a penalty kick in the 35th minute. In between Sack’s goals, Brendan Borbo scored in the 12th minute from Serio while Serio scored in the 21st minute on a helper from James Feldmann.
