Hornets sting Panthers

FORESTVILLE – Forestville (5-3, 4-2) swept past Gowanda (0-7, 0-6) 25-11, 25-17, 25-11, Wednesday during CCAA East II girls volleyball action.

Sierra Tweedie had five digs, four kills and four aces for the Lady Hornets while Alisha Szumigala added seven kills, two aces and two blocks. Also for Forestville, Elanena Oyler charted six kills, Faith Mierzwa four aces and Lizzy Gilman four kills and four aces. Ashley VanBuskirk and Amanda Weaver contributed 20 assists in the win.

For Gowanda, Syd Gominiak and Malyssa Farley had three aces each in a losing effort.

Silver Creek 25 25 22 26

SILVER CREEK – Jordan Brooks’ 18 kills and eight blocks helped the Silver Creek Black Knights (6-3, 3-3) hold off the West Valley Lady Panthers (3-6, 1-6), 25-13, 25-16, 22-25, 26-24 in East II girls high school volleyball action.

Allison Harford added 10 kills and five digs while Cora Utegg charted 14 assists, 12 digs and three kills for the winners.

“We gave them a little momentum in the third game,” Silver Creek coach Bridget Case said. “We couldn’t close it out and gave them some momentum. They fought really hard, but we were able to pull it off.”

The Lady Panthers were led by Stephanie Schweickert’s five kills and 13 digs and Madison Czatela’s five aces and 10 digs.

The Black Knights host Cattaraugus-Little Valley today in a non-league matchup.


Fredonia 16 25 25 25

Brocton 25 9 13 18

It took some time, but the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies (3-3, 4-5) rallied past Brocton-Westfield (1-4, 1-6), 16-25, 25-9, 25-13, 25-18 in West I girls high school volleyball action.

Makenzie Tarnowski led the winners with nine aces, six kills and two blocks while Maddie Crandall charted five aces and six assists. Emily Ludwig contributed with six kills and Lea Richir finished with 15 digs and three aces for Fredonia.

“We came out slow tonight, and once we focused our energy on passing the ball better, things started to go our way a bit more,” Fredonia coach Chris Anderson said. “It’s always nice to get a win.”

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Lindsay Harp’s two aces, three kills and two blocks and Emily LaPorte’s four kills.

Fredonia returns to action today at Falconer.
