Fredonia dominates Jamestown

The Fredonia Lady Hillbillies (6-3) put together an impressive performance in defeating Jamestown (2-7, 3-7), 5-0, Thursday in CCAA girls high school tennis.

Fredonia’s Georgie Gens (first singles) and Baylee Tarnowski (second singles) were dominant as they each beat their respective opponents, 6-0, 6-0. Lauren Millson won her third single’s match, 6-3, 6-3. The closest match came at first doubles as Fredonia’s Marina Kessler and Kelsey Vianses held off Olivia Valone and Ellie Blixt, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 (superbreaker).

In second doubles, Fredonia’s Sarah Zinni-Bailey Flores took care of Sam Melice-Jenna Valone, 6-3, 6-2.

Southwestern 5, Chautauqua Lake 0

JAMESTOWN – The Southwestern Lady Trojans defeated the Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds, 5-0, Thursday in CCAA girls high school tennis.

The closest match came in second doubles as Chautauqua Lake’s Emilie Christie and Autumn Shuskie jumped out with a 6-2 victory in the first set. However, Southwestern’s Leigh Yartz and Hannah Girts won the next two sets, 6-2, 6-4 for the victory.

Maple Grove 5, Dunkirk 0

The Maple Grove Lady Red Dragons (6-3, 7-3) turned in a dominating performance Thursday in a CCAA West League girls tennis matchup against the Dunkirk Lady Marauders (0-9, 0-10). Maple Grove took every match but one by a score of 6-0, 6-0 on its way to a 5-0 victory.

Second doubles proved to be the best match of the day as Maple Grove’s Sam Hallett and Megan Allenson took on Dunkirk’s Nicole Favata and Angelica Rivera. Maple Grove came out hot and took the first set 6-0 but Favata and Rivera came storming back to take the second set 6-3. Tied at one set apiece, Hallett and Allenson regained control and eventually won the tiebreaker 10-1.

In the first singles matchup, Maple Grove’s Corrine Cardinale defeated Ally Clement 6-0, 6-0. Paige Bentham won second singles for the Lady Red Dragons over Crystal Muller 6-0, 6-0. Maple Grove finished the singles sweep as Morgan Lehman defeated Shauna Berbarich 6-0, 6-0. In first doubles it was Christina Walter and Yuika Suzuki defeating Hannah Smith-Wilson and CC Chase 6-0, 6-0.
