DOT investigating traffic at Williams Street intersection
The New York State Department of Transportation has begun an investigation into traffic patterns on Williams Street and Route 60 in Dunkirk.
At the Dunkirk Town Board’s regular meeting on Sept. 24, Supervisor Richard Purol said he received correspondence from the DOT concerning a letter he sent about the high amount of traffic accidents at the intersection, the most recent of which occurred on Aug. 8.
Several Dunkirk residents have spoken out about the need for either a traffic light or turning lane at the intersection.
Purol said, “I spoke with a woman who works for Senator (Catharine) Young and she explained that this is not a very fast process. They have their way of doing things and they’re starting to look into it.”
According to the OBSERVER’s website, there have been at least eight accidents at that intersection in the last four years.
The investigation is projected to be complete by the end of November when the DOT will report its findings and propose a solution by March 1.
